Implants

Tooth loss is relatively common, but the impact it can have on an individual’s confidence is huge, not to mention how it can affect your quality of life. Whether you have one missing tooth or several, the good news is that there are a few options you can consider in order to restore your smile.Perhaps you are wearing a denture which is loose so you find it hard to eat. Many of us find it embarrassing to talk about and deal with these issues. For most people dental implants offer the best long-term solution to replace missing teeth.Dental implants are titanium root shaped posts that are placed in the bone under your gums. After a healing phase a porcelain crown can be fitted onto the implant. The implant can also be used to attach bridges and secure dentures when more than one tooth is missing.

Dental Implants to secure Dentures

Dentures are a common solution for tooth loss, but for many patients, they can become ill-fitting and unreliable, leaving patients feeling self-conscious about their teeth slipping.Denture stabilisation is a simple and cost effective way to ensure that your dentures fit tightly and snugly with very limited movement. The biggest fear for dentures wearers is that they might pop out during social situations, therefore enabling them to eat certain foods and to quickly knock confidence and self-esteem.Implants remove the need for the denture to cover your palate, restoring speech and taste, two challenges associated with dentures. We use the dental implants to fit a series of press stud-type attachments which click and lock your denture firmly into place.

Why we may recommend implants to secure dentures? +
  • Insufficient bone is available to place multiple implants, or the scope of bone augmentation required is beyond what you feel comfortable with
  • You feel used to having dentures or prefer removable teeth, perhaps because you struggle to cope with cleaning around fixed bridgework
  • You want a simple solution

How do I know if I am suitable for dental implants? +

Most generally healthy people are suitable for dental implants. We carry out a strict series of examinations and checks to make sure implants are right for you.

Will the procedure hurt? +

This is one of the most commonly asked dental implant questions we hear. But don’t worry, we’ll use a local anaesthetic when placing your implants so you won’t feel any pain.

Although the procedure may be invasive, we carry out your surgery with care; gently, cautiously and precisely. Our team are highly skilled and have extensive experience in dental implant treatments.

How long will my implants last? +

Once your bone and the tissue around your implant have healed (after about 3-6 months) and your crowns are properly fitted, how long your new teeth last is completely up to you.

The quality and upkeep of how you care for them will influence their durability. Implants need the same attention as real teeth. If you take care of them properly, they’ll last you a lifetime.

How do I care for my implants? +

One of the main reasons an implant will fail is due to poor oral hygiene. Remember – your dental implant is a replacement tooth, so you do have to take care of it as though it were real.

What is an Implant Overdenture? +

Overdenture is any removable dental prosthesis that covers and rests on one or more dental implants. It is one of the most practical measures used in preventive dentistry. Overdentures can be either tooth supported or implant supported. Brushing at least twice a day, flossing, having regular check-ups with your dentist and seeing a dental hygienist regularly will all help keep your implants and surviving teeth healthy.

Patients treated with implant overdentures have significantly higher masticatory, functional and life quality scores than patients wearing conventional complete dentures.

What is a implant fixed bridge? +

An implant-supported bridge is similar to a regular dental bridge, but it is supported by implants and not by natural teeth.

Implant-supported bridgesreplace teeth without support from adjacent natural teeth. As implant-supported bridges replace your tooth roots, the bone is better preserved. Dental implants integrate with the jawbone, helping keep the bone healthy and keep your restoration secure.
